Breakthrough in meningococcal disease

Hertford’s Professor of Biology, Martin Maiden, is at the forefront of research into meningococcal disease. A new paper by his research group – including Hertford graduate Dorothea Hill – has identified the different bacterial lineages responsible for outbreaks, which will help target vaccines more effectively. Martin explains:
This will be particularly important for monitoring the success of the new MenB vaccine (Bexsero), which was introduced to the UK childhood immunisation programme in September.
