Where you will live

We provide over five hundred bedrooms for our students, located at the main site on Catte Street and at a number of other residential annexes and properties around the city centre.

Undergraduate accommodation

Graduate accommodation

Since 1995, we’ve been proud to provide accommodation to all undergraduate students that require it. All our undergraduate freshers (first-year students) are housed on our main college site, right in the heart of Oxford. You’ll be at the centre of our college community, close to the common room and dining hall, and living alongside other new students. Some graduate freshers can be accommodated at one of our college houses, which are walking distance from the main college site.

All bedrooms and communal areas are serviced on a daily basis by scouts, members of our college housekeeping team. To find out more about the costs of accommodation, as well as other financial information, you can consult the finance pages for undergraduate and graduate students.

You can browse our frequently asked questions about living at Hertford, which should answer most of your questions. If you can’t find the answer you need, you can contact our Accommodation Officer who will be pleased to help you.

  • Virtual Tour

The Oxford University website offers a 360° virtual tour of Hertford, where you can see the dining hall, library, JCR, chapel, and an example of a student room. Prospective students are always welcome to visit college – get in touch with undergraduate admissions or postgraduate admissions to arrange a visit. If you’re a prospective undergraduate student, we’d love to welcome you at one of our Open Days.

  • Insurance

We provide a basic level of insurance for students’ possessions (including bikes, laptops, phones etc.) as well as some personal cover. The insurance is provided through Endsleigh, and you can add extra cover to suit your own needs (or simply check what is included) by visiting their website and entering the College’s policy number (HH1587). Please do make sure your insurance arrangements are sufficient for your needs.

By partnering with Endsleigh, the No.1 student insurance provider, we’ve arranged free contents insurance for all our students staying with us. It is important all students confirm their cover to ensure you understand what is and isn’t covered. Plus you’ll also be entered into a prize draw, courtesy of Endsleigh!

Visit confirm your cover to see:

    • What is and what isn’t covered
    • Key exclusions – where cover isn’t provided
    • Policy excess – the amount you pay when you make a claim
    • How to make a claim
    • Personalise cover

We understand students have a limited budget so Endsleigh have launched brand new, unique student insurance options. They have been designed to cover the risks that you may encounter whilst living in student accommodation and away from home.

  • Student Accommodation Code

Hertford College is committed to fulfilling the requirements of the Student Accommodation Code, a nationwide code of practice for accommodation providers within higher education. More information on this can be found on the legislation at the Universities UK website.
