Visiting students

Hertford College is an excellent choice if you want to study abroad. Here in the heart of Oxford, you can be part of our intellectually-stimulating academic community and experience the University’s unique tutorial system.

At Hertford we have a high quality and well-established visiting student programme, welcoming students from across the world to study at the University of Oxford within our renowned tutorial system. We’re a small and friendly college, so it’s easy to make friends with our regular students. Hertford is right in the centre of Oxford, opposite the world-famous Bodleian Library and the beautiful Sheldonian Theatre. We’re also within easy walking distance of faculty libraries, lecture theatres, bookshops and cafes. You’ll live in our south Oxford accommodation, adjacent to the River Thames, which is ideal if you want to try your hand in our college rowing clubs.

All visiting students at Hertford are automatically enrolled as a ‘registered visiting student’ of the University. This is really important as it gives you an official status with the University of Oxford. You’ll have reading rights in the Bodleian Library and faculty libraries, where you’ll also be able to borrow books. You’ll be able to attend the large number of lectures and seminars open to current Oxford students and will be able to join the wide variety of University societies and sports clubs, including the renowned Oxford Union debating society.
