Hertford is centrally located in Oxford on Catte Street. If you are coming to Hertford for the first time, you will probably want to go to the lodge which is just inside the main entrance on Catte Street, just past New College Lane.
Prospective students
Schools and prospective applicants are very welcome to visit Hertford – email our Outreach team to make arrangements. We also hold Open Days in June/July and September each year, when students, fellows and admissions staff are available to answer questions.
Alumni
Hertford alumni are always welcome to visit OB Quad and the Chapel, usually between 10am – 3pm Monday to Friday and on Saturdays between 2pm – 4pm. Unfortunately we are closed to visitors during exams (usually mid-May to the end of June). Alumni wishing to visit other parts of the college may be able to do so accompanied by a member of the Development Office , which is open Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm – please get in touch if you would like to arrange a short tour. A small number of rooms are available for alumni to book for B&B during vacation periods. Enquiries can also be made to the Development Office.
Occasionally events, such as degree ceremonies, might also mean we cannot admit visitors. To avoid disappointment, please contact the Porters’ Lodge in advance to let them know when you would like to visit (porters@hertford.ox.ac.uk or 01865 279400).
Tourists
As a small college, Hertford is unfortunately closed to tourists.
Accessibility
Our listed college buildings date from the 16th century and the multi-level site is not universally accessible. If you have accessibility requirements, please see our health and disabilities page. You may also find the Oxford University Access Guide useful.
The precise locations of our entrances can be located using the what3words app or website, which generates a chain of three words corresponding to a three metre square map location:
