Final Library Design gets the Go Ahead
Final Library Design gets the Go Ahead
24 November 2023
We are delighted to announce that the college’s Governing Body has signed off final designs for our library redevelopment. The main phase of the building work will start in spring 2024.
This ambitious redevelopment is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to significantly upgrade our library, archive, study and meeting spaces, and to improve the fabric of the existing historic buildings and their energy use. Like Hertford, the new library will be open and welcoming, a place of opportunity. And in the Hertford spirit, it is a unifying, collaborative project for the whole Hertford community. The library will be fully accessible, with a lift to all floors that will allow access to the Hall for those with limited mobility, for the first time in our history.
We have so far raised £4m for the redevelopment, and we are immensely grateful to everyone who has supported the project. We are now in the most urgent and important part of the campaign. We hope that the community will rally around this vital project. If you can make a gift, please visit our campaign microsite, or contact the Development Office. If you would like to know more about the library and the difference it will make to our students, contact the Fellow Librarian, Professor Emma Smith.
