Hertford Catering Team makes further Sustainability Commitment

Hertford College Catering Services is proud to announce that over the Christmas Vac all gas equipment from the main site kitchen will be replaced with energy-efficient electric appliances. This move is part of the college’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental impact.
“We are excited to take this step towards a more sustainable future, ”Gas appliances are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, and we believe that switching to electric appliances will help us reduce our carbon footprint”, says Carl Isham, Head Chef of Hertford.
The new electric appliances are not only more energy-efficient, but they also offer several other benefits, such as:
- Improved indoor air quality: Gas appliances can emit harmful pollutants, such as nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide. Electric appliances do not produce these emissions, which can improve indoor air quality and respiratory health.
- Easier to use and clean: Electric appliances are often easier to use and clean than gas appliances. They also have fewer moving parts, which can reduce maintenance costs.
- Safer: Electric appliances are safer than gas appliances
Hertford College is committed to being a leader in sustainability, and this is just one of the many steps the company is taking to reduce its environmental impact. Catering Services continues to work to reduce its food waste, compost its kitchen scraps, and use sustainable packaging, and importantly sourcing all our food from local suppliers.
