Hertford College marked International Women’s Day, and 50 years of female undergraduates, with a fantastic programme of events celebrating the achievements of Hertford women in media. The occasion brought together students, alumni, and esteemed guests for an inspiring and engaging experience.
The celebrations began with a screening of Grand Theft Hamlet, a thought-provoking documentary by Hertford alumna Pinny Grylls. Following the screening, Grylls participated in a Q&A session, providing valuable insights into her creative process and the themes explored in her work. The discussion captivated the audience, offering a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on the film industry.
The second event of the day was a panel discussion featuring a distinguished group of Hertford women who have gone on to make their mark in the media. The panel included renowned broadcaster Natasha Kaplinsky, journalist Charlie Hancock, and columnist Catherine Bennett. Their conversation covered a range of topics, from navigating the challenges of the media industry to the importance of representation and mentorship for women in the field. Their experiences and advice resonated with the audience, sparking meaningful conversations about the role of women in shaping narratives.
The celebrations concluded with a delightful dinner, providing a wonderful opportunity for Hertford women —past and present— to come together, share stories, and build connections. The atmosphere was one of camaraderie and support, reinforcing the strength of the Hertford community in fostering the success of its women.
We want to thank all our alumni who where involved in the evening; the event was a testament to the achievements of Hertford women and a reminder of the importance of continuing to champion gender equality in all fields. As conversations from the evening carry forward, it is clear that Hertford remains a place where women are empowered to pursue their ambitions and create lasting impact.
