Professor Patrick Roche elected interim Principal

Governing Body has elected Professor Patrick Roche as Hertford College’s interim Principal, following Tom Fletcher’s recent appointment as the UN’s next Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.

Professor Roche will take up post on 18 November, leading the college through a transitional period until a permanent Principal is appointed. Pat was Tutorial Fellow in Physics at Hertford between 1995 – 2023, and served as Tutor for Graduates and Investment Bursar. He was also Senior Member of the Boat Club for 25 years, and beyond retirement stayed on to advise on the college’s Estates Strategy. Pat’s extensive academic and administrative experience will no doubt stand him in good stead as he assumes his new role.
