New year, new Principal

In January we started saying our goodbyes to Will Hutton after 9 successful years at the helm of the good ship Hertford. After six sittings (or, more accurately, standings) in 2019, Will unveiled his portrait alongside its painter Bob Tulloch. Unique among the college’s portraits, Will’s has an outdoor setting, celebrating the beautiful morning light in OB Quad while alluding to Will’s status as a relative outsider for the principalship – state-school educated and never an Oxbridge student himself. Will retired at the end of the academic year, and was succeeded by Tom Fletcher CMG in September 2020.
