What will it cost?

We recognise that graduate students are central to Oxford’s mission as a world-leading, research-intensive university, and work to support talented students from the UK and beyond to succeed in their studies here.

Further information on co-funded scholarships, and graduate fees and funding, is available from the University’s graduate admissions website.

  • Course fees

Course fees cover your teaching, and other academic services and facilities provided to support your studies. They do not cover your accommodation or other living costs. You may have seen separate figures in the past for tuition fees and college fees. The University has now combined these into a single figure.

  • Scholarships

Hertford works with University faculties and departments to offer a number of co-funded scholarships. The number available varies from year to year, and you will always need to hold an offer from the relevant Oxford department or faculty to be considered for one. In most cases no separate application is required, since the award is made by agreement between the college and the faculty, or faculties, after each has reviewed all the eligible offer-holders. But you may wish to express a preference for Hertford in your application for postgraduate study.

  • Accommodation

For graduate students renting a single-occupancy room from the college, there is a flat rate of £25.56 per night (2023-24) – please see below for annual costs. The standard rental period is from 19th September 2023 until 12th July 2024. If needed, there are options to extend this to later in the summer and the start of the following academic year.

    Standard licence (19 September 2023 – 12 July 2024) = £7,591.32

Your rent includes all utilities and a basic level of insurance cover provided by Endsleigh. You should also budget for additional costs like laundry. Laundry facilities provided by Circuit are available in or near to all college accommodation buildings.

  • Meals

All of our graduate accommodation comes equipped with shared kitchen facilities, but you are also encouraged to dine in our historic Hall on the main college site. Three meals a day are served on weekdays during term, with brunch available at weekends and an optional formal dinner twice a week. For standard daily meals, there is no set charge as the cost is based on the items selected and it’s easy to keep track of your spending with our catering app, allowing you to log your spending online before receiving an invoice at the end of each term.

Indicative costs for catered meals (excluding drinks) are as follows but remember, as charges are based on the items selected, your spending could be significantly more or less than these suggestions.

    Weekday breakfast = £2.50

    Weekend brunch = £3.75

Lunch (soup, roll and salad) = £3.00

Lunch (main with sides) = £4.10

Lunch (jacket potato with filling) = £1.50

Dinner (vegetarian main, sides and dessert) = £5.30

Dinner (meat main, sides and dessert) = £6.00

3-course Formal (twice a week in term, optional) = £9.50
