Graduate accommodation

Applications are processed in three allocation rounds (normally April, May and June). Following each round, applicants will either:

• receive an accommodation offer; or
• be notified that they remain under consideration for the next round.

Applicants who are unsuccessful after the final round may join a waiting list.

If you have a disability or medical requirement affecting accommodation, this must be declared in your application and registered with the University’s Disability Advisory Service (DAS) so that it can be prioritised during the allocation process.

If you receive an accommodation offer

1. You will be asked to pay a £400 deposit to secure your accommodation.
2. In July, students are randomly allocated to properties. Additional information about your accommodation, arrival dates and information and rates is sent at this stage.
3. In August, you will sign your accommodation licence and receive any final information about accommodation and arrival.

Please note: To ensure that as much space as possible is allocated to the students most in need of support (irrespective of when they apply in the cycle), specific properties are not assigned until all allocation rounds have been completed. Once your deposit has been paid, your accommodation is secured, but the exact property will not be confirmed until July.

If you accept an accommodation offer, you will be asked to pay a £400 deposit, which will be credited towards your rent when you move in.

The deposit is refundable if:

• you do not meet the conditions of your offer (either academic or financial);
• you defer or withdraw before the academic year begins; or
• you suspend your studies during the year.

If you enrol at Hertford but choose to live elsewhere, the deposit is retained by the college.

Graduate accommodation is charged at a flat rate of £29.47 per night, regardless of room size, location or facilities.

Standard licence (19 September 2026 to 13 July 2027): £8,752.59

Please note that a few properties have different licence dates, which will be advised as part of the application process. Additional nights may be available before or after the standard licence period (although this is not guaranteed) and are charged at the nightly rate. Charges increase annually on 1 August.

Rent includes:

• all utilities
• basic contents insurance (provided by Howdens)
• Wi-Fi

Students should budget separately for laundry costs. Pay-per-use laundry facilities are available in a number of college accommodation buildings.

A beautiful 19th-century suburb just north of the city centre near to University Parks, where there are over 70 acres of open parkland, popular jogging routes, and the River Cherwell. The independent shops and pubs of North Parade are a popular feature of the area too.

Hertford’s houses at 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 Winchester Road offer single bedrooms with shared kitchens, bathrooms and laundry facilities.

Please note: construction of the new Hertford Graduate Centre is expected to begin during the next academic year, with some associated noise in the gardens of Winchester Road/Banbury Road.

A popular central neighbourhood known for its cafés, pubs and independent shops.

Our houses at 63 and 64 St Bernard’s Road and 29 Leckford Road provide single rooms with shared kitchens, bathrooms and laundry facilities.

A vibrant north Oxford community 2.5 km from the city centre (half an hour on foot or ten minutes by bike or bus), with cafés and restaurants, shops, supermarkets, a weekly farmers’ market and a public leisure centre with gym and swimming pool.

Hertford accommodation includes:

• 214b Banbury Road – six single bedrooms with laundry facilities available across the road at 189 Banbury Road
• 189 Banbury Road – sixteen single bedrooms with shared kitchens, bathrooms and laundry facilities

Located between Cowley Road and Iffley Road in east Oxford, St Stephen’s House is a permanent private hall of the University and offers accommodation within a lively student neighbourhood close to shops, cafés, restaurants and the University’s sports centre.

Hertford’s annexe with St Stephen’s occupies several floors in one wing and offers single rooms with shared kitchens, bathrooms and laundry facilities.

Students at St Stephen’s House have a different licence period (normally 1 October to 30 June). Details will be included with any accommodation offer.
