Graduate accommodation
We can accommodate graduate students at our dedicated graduate houses across the city, which offer a range of accommodation options.
Our bedrooms for graduates are located in three popular areas of north Oxford (Park Town, Jericho and Summertown) and in vibrant east Oxford (St Stephen’s House). All are within a short distance of the main college site, which can be easily accessed by foot, bicycle or bus. We endeavour to house as many first-year graduates as possible, but cannot guarantee accommodation for all applicants. If your programme is longer than a year, you will be eligible to enter a ballot for housing in your subsequent years of study.
Accommodation is for single occupancy (including single beds) with shared facilities (bathrooms and kitchens). We do not segregate accommodation by gender, race or religion and house both fresher and continuing postgraduate students in the same properties.
We have limited accommodation for couples so we suggest that if you’re looking for couples or family accommodation you also contact the University’s Graduate Accommodation Office (separate to Hertford’s accommodation office).

Park Town is a beautiful 19th-century suburb just north of the city centre near to University Parks, where there are over 70 acres of open parkland, popular jogging routes, and the meandering River Cherwell. The independent shops and pubs of North Parade are a popular feature of the area too. Our college houses at 8, 9, 10 and 11 Winchester Road offer single bedrooms with shared bathrooms, kitchens and laundry facilities. The College expects to commence building the new Graduate Centre in North Oxford at some point in the next academic year. Students at St Stephen’s House will have different licence periods (expected period will be from 1 October to 30 June). Information about the licence period will be included in your offer.
Applying for graduate accommodation
While we try to accommodate all graduate freshers requiring accommodation, this is not guaranteed. All graduate applicants who are offered a place at Hertford (either conditional or unconditional) are asked if they wish to be considered for graduate accommodation. After sending offer letters to applicants the Hertford Accommodation Office will get in touch with the graduate accommodation application form.
In the interests of ensuring that as much space as possible is allocated to the students most in need of support (irrespective of the point in the cycle at which they apply) we allocate rooms on a monthly basis throughout the application cycle. Please see below for details of this year’s allocation dates and our prioritisation schema.

Application processing dates
In the interests of ensuring that as much space as possible is allocated to the students most in need of support (irrespective of the point in the cycle at which they apply) we allocate rooms on a monthly basis throughout the application cycle. Offer-holder prioritisation
Hertford College cannot guarantee accommodation for all graduate applicants. Therefore, the categories of offer-holder we consider priorities for graduate accommodation allocation are as below (with number one being the highest priority):
- Those with disabilities or other special requirements which would make it hard to find suitable private, rented accommodation at short notice.
- Those intending to come to Oxford for the first time for graduate study who have no previous experience of the UK education system.
- Those with previous experience of the UK education system who have already met the academic conditions of their offer and have submitted their financial declaration.
- Those with previous experience of the UK education system who have already met the academic conditions of their offer but have not yet submitted their financial declaration.
- Those with previous experience of the UK education system who have yet to meet their academic conditions and who have not yet submitted their financial declaration.
