David Todd

David Todd is an acclaimed conductor equally at home in the fields of opera and choral music, and joined Hertford as Interim Director of Music in 2026. Most recently he was engaged as Kapellmeister and Head of Music at the Mainfranken Theatre in Würzburg, Germany where he conducted a number of operas, was nominated for a prize in national publication ‘Die Opernwelt’ and met with critical acclaim. Prior to this he worked at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and with various companies including Opera North and Opera Holland Park in the U.K. 

As choral conductor and chorus master, David’s work has included contracts with the Netherlands Radio Choir, Theater Heidelberg, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Southbank Centre, London-Based chamber choir Myriad and more recently as Assistant Director of Music at All Saints, Leamington Spa. 

David was trained as an Organ Scholar at University College, Oxford, where he gained his ARCO, studied for a Masters in Choral Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, who recently awarded him an Associateship (ARCM), and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he received the James Geddes Award.
