Dr Catherine Sloan
Academic Skills Tutor
Catherine is the Academic Skills Tutor at Hertford College. She provides academic support through workshops, one-to-one meetings, and writing groups, which aim at helping Hertford students to study to their highest potential. If you are a member of Hertford College as an undergraduate, visiting, or postgraduate student, Catherine is here to offer additional support for your studies.
Catherine completed her DPhil in History at the University of Oxford, focusing on histories of gender, childhood, and education in modern Britain. She has lectured, taught tutorials and seminars, marked exams, and examined DPhil students for Confirmation and Transfer of Status, and so understands the system of teaching and examining at Oxford.
Before arriving at the University of Oxford, Catherine studied for an undergraduate degree in English Literature at Trinity College Dublin, and a Masters degree in History at the University of Glasgow, the latter completed part-time alongside full-time work in university preparation for international students. This means she has experience working with students from varied educational backgrounds, as well as personal experience of managing the transition from another university into the approaches to learning at the University of Oxford.
