Hertford Fellows receive full Professorships in University’s Recognition of Distinction Scheme
2 October 2023
We are proud to announce that three Hertford Fellows received Recognition of Distinction awards from the University of Oxford last week. Dawid Kielak (Tutorial Fellow in Mathematics), Siddharth Parameswaran (Tutorial Fellow in Physics) and Louise Slater (Tutorial Fellow in Geography) have all been awarded the title of full professor.
The annual scheme recognises employees who make a significant and sustained academic contribution to the University’s work. Candidates need to meet three criteria for the conferment of the title of full professor: research, teaching, and good citizenship.
Dawid Kielak’s research interests lie somewhere between geometric group theory and the theory of group rings. He said: “I am humbled and very happy to have received the Recognition of Distinction Award!”
Siddharth Parameswaran is broadly interested in all aspects of condensed matter, and particularly in unusual phenomena that emerge as a result of strong interactions or in non-equilibrium settings.
Sid said: “I’m very pleased at this honour. Much of my research would be impossible were it not for the energy of my stellar younger colleagues, both students and postdocs — and so above all I’m very grateful to them. Hertford and the Rudolf Peierls Centre [for Theoretical Physics] have been supportive and collegial environments, allowing me to balance the demands of research against College and University teaching while having lots of fun along the way!”
Louise Slater leads the Hydro-Climate Extremes research group in the Department of Geography, which develops computational approaches to detect, attribute, and predict how changes in climate and land cover may affect water-related extremes and society.
Louise said: “I’m very happy to share that I have been promoted to Full Professor! Thank you to my fantastic group members, mentors, family, friends, collaborators, students, and colleagues.”
Many congratulations to Dawid, Sid and Louise!
