We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner every day during term time on our main college site, with an ever-popular brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.
Meals are filling and wholesome, priced to offer excellent value for students, and we cater for a range of dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan and halal options.
Eating in Hall is an important part of social life at Hertford. Students can choose to eat together regularly, as well as attending dinners connected with subjects, societies and other college events. Private group dinners and drinks receptions are also welcomed throughout the academic year.
Catering provision continues on main site through much of the year, including outside undergraduate term time when postgraduate students are in residence.
Formal Hall and special occasions
Formal Hall takes place three times a week. These are served dinners in Hall and are an opportunity to eat with friends in a more formal setting.
There are also regular themed formals, including Valentine’s Day, Halloween and Oxmas, as well as other special events ranging from four-course black-tie dinners to student barbecues.
College cafe
The Buttery Cafe serves high-street standard coffee, tea, smoothies, cakes and cookies at subsidised prices. It is located at the heart of college in the main quad.
College bar
The college bar, known as DTB (‘Down The Bar’), is open every night during term time. Located beneath New Buildings Quad, it has five different rooms as well as a darts board, table football and board games.
DTB is used by individual students, groups of friends, clubs and societies and is a regular meeting place in the evenings.
Our catering staff are a friendly and approachable part of college life. The team welcomes feedback from students and is always ready to listen to suggestions and ideas about the food we provide.
