Development Assistant Intern opportunity at Hertford

Are you a Hertford student in your final year, coming to the end of your postgraduate course, or a Hertford alumnus who has graduated within the last two years?  Are you interested in communications, events, data and fundraising? Looking for an opportunity to kickstart your career?  Read on…

The Development team is delighted to announce that applications are now open for the role of Development Assistant (2026-2027).

This role offers an opportunity to undertake project, and gain experience and highly transferable skills in four key areas:  Events, Data, Communications and Fundraising.

The Development Assistant will play an important role in supporting Hertford’s alumni and fundraising operations, enhancing the engagement between Hertford College, current students, recent alumni and collectively the whole Hertford community.

The Development team is a friendly, supportive and ambitious team. Our recent Giving Day set a new fundraising record for an Oxford college, and this is an exciting time to join the team and make a real difference as we plan a major fundraising campaign and review our alumni programme.

This is a paid work experience placement for up to 12 months.

“I highly recommend this position to any finalist or recent alumni looking to learn essential administrative skills while developing their own strengths within the role. As Development Assistant you’re supporting a variety of the office’s functions, so it’s a challenging job that often changes in pace and kind. Some of the role is basic, day-to-day admin, like managing post and replying to emails, aspects of it are creative, involving drafting and designing comms for fundraising campaigns and alumni events, and it can also be data-focused, requiring basic research skills to find relevant information online about donors and prospects. The Development Team are both experienced and personable; they’ve made my extra time in college a pleasure! Although I’m leaving to take up a place on a Fine Art MA, I’m confident that I now have the basic experience to make a strong application to any similar role in the future.” –  Madeleine Jacob, Development Assistant 2025-2026.

The ideal candidate will be organised, enthusiastic and have good interpersonal skills. You will be a collaborative team player who can prioritise competing demands within a fast-paced working environment. To find out more please see the Further Particulars attached below.

You will benefit from support and working in close collaboration with the rest of our committed Hertford community. We will invest in your personal development through training, mentoring and professional development. We offer a generous benefits package, including a pension scheme with the ability to select your contribution level, 28 days holiday plus bank holiday, an employee discount platform with access to thousands of retail discounts, social events and many more
