Video competition shortlist announced
22 May 2019
We’re excited to announce the shortlist for our inaugural Unsung Heroes of Science video competition, featuring 20 teams from across the country.
Back in February, we launched Unsung Heroes of Science, with the hope of discovering the stories which have been left out of the textbooks. Sixth-form students from across the UK answered our call, producing a host of wonderfully innovative and unusual videos about unsung heroes from over one thousand years of scientific history.
The 20 shortlisted videos have been chosen for their great storytelling and engaging presentation, opening up forgotten heroes to a whole new audience. Competition judge and University Champion for Public Engagement, Prof. Alison Woollard, said:
It was very tricky to narrow down such a fun and informative selection of videos. I’ve been truly inspired by your work – the world needs people like you to keep going!
We’ll be welcoming the shortlisted teams for a special celebration day on Tuesday 2 July, where Alison will announce the which team will be heading off the Channel 4 News to meet Krishnan Guru-Murthy. We’ll also have an ‘Audience Choice’ award for the most-watched video – watch and share your favourite on our Unsung Heroes of Science page or on our YouTube channel.
