Oxford to London Challenge Success
25 March 2019
Congratulations to all the Hertford rowers who took part in the Oxford to London challenge row.
Members from all the Hertford Boat Club crews took part in this 100-mile odyssey to the capital along the Thames, navigating countless locks, bends, and other obstacles, arriving in a time of only 37 hours (including an overnight stop). The crews docked at Cygnet Boat Club just along from Hammersmith Bridge, before joining up with other members of the boat club past and present for a celebratory reunion. We were honoured and delighted to be joined by two former Team GB Hertfordians Zoë Lee (Geography, 2004) and Stephanie Cullen (Chemistry, 1999) who congratulated the rowers.
The row was a tremendous success, with the students raising over ÂŁ7,500 themselves. We were also able to announce on Saturday that a Hertford alum, Mark Greenberg (1987), has pledged to donate a five-figure sum to the club upon successful completion of the row. Part of this donation will be a matched fund of ÂŁ25,000, with ÂŁ1,000 being released for every new direct debit set up towards the boat club – please get in touch with the Development Office if you would like to take advantage of this matched fund.
It’s not too late to donate towards the challenge, or to support the boat club. For more information about supporting HCBC as well as how to donate please see our HCBC fundraising page.
