#100years – Votes for Women
6 February 2018
To mark the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918 – the Act of Parliament that allowed women over the age of 30 and ‘of property’ the vote for the first time in British history –Â we joined 31 other sites across the city flying the ‘Votes for Women’ flag.
Equality is a value that is deeply embedded within the college and it was an honour for us to be able to commemorate all those who fought tirelessly for equality as part of the suffrage movement, and for all those who continue to do so around the world. Find out more about women at Hertford on our pages about co-education, celebrating the fact that we were one of the first five all-male colleges to admit female students in 1974.
