Hertford College Women portrait display

In 1974, Hertford was one of the first all-male Oxford colleges to accept women. To celebrate the 40th anniversary in 2014/15, 21 portraits of Hertford women were displayed in Hall, photographed by Robert Taylor.

Those featured were chosen from a longlist nominated by students, alumni, fellows and staff. The portrait sitters come from every generation of women since 1974, including former undergraduate and graduate students, current and former fellows and honorary fellows, and represent the diverse range of occupations our alumni pursue. The exhibition attracted press coverage by the Telegraph, the Guardian, BBC Oxford, and Cherwell. You can also view all the portraits and stories, alongside the Tanner Scheme portraits from 2015-16, in this booklet.
