Alumni FAQ

We often get asked questions about graduation ceremonies or the award of MA degrees, so we've put this page together to answer some of these queries. If there's something you'd like to know which we haven't covered here, get in touch.

How do I join the Hertford alumni community?
Once you've graduated from Hertford you'll automatically join our community of worldwide Hertford alumni.

Not hearing from us? Make sure we have your latest contact details.

How do I apply for a graduation ceremony?
Hertford's College Office can provide you with details of graduation including forthcoming degree days and the process of applying.

How do I apply for an Oxford MA degree?
To be eligible, you need to have completed your BA or BFA 21 terms (or more) since you matriculated - that's seven years after starting your degree.

It isn't an automatic process, so you must apply to graduate at a degree ceremony (either in person or in absentia); refer to our graduation information or contact the college [dot] office [at] hertford [dot] ox [dot] ac [dot] uk (College Office) for further information.

How do I verify my qualifications or get a replacement certificate?
These can be obtained from the University's Degree Conferrals Office.

Is it possible to remain a member of the Bodleian Library?
Oxford alumni can register as a Bodleian Libraries member for free; this provides access to the Bodleian Libraries on a reference basis and access to Oxford’s full e-resource collections when in one of the Bodleian Libraries (as well as some e-resources remotely).

Can I network or ask for career advice from other Oxford University alumni?
Yes, if you join the Oxford Alumni Community. This is a professional networking platform designed to help alumni connect with each other all over the world. Members can post and search for jobs and mentors, view events, and search the Directory for other alumni members; each member is a verified alumnus of the University.

I'd like an Oxford alumni card - how do I apply for one?
The Oxford alumni card identifies you as a member of the University's body of alumni. It isn't necessary to visit Hertford (you're always welcome!) but will help you visit some other Oxford colleges.

The University's central alumni office provide these cards upon request; please visit their website to request one.

Can I keep my Oxford email address?
You can't keep the same address you had as a student, but there is an alumni email forwarding service which provides an address you can keep for life. The email addressess are provided using the following format: firstname [dot] lastname [at] hertford [dot] oxon [dot] org. This isn't a mailbox, but it will forward emails received to an email address of your choice.

I'd love to hold an event or my wedding at Hertford - can I?
Our weekends can get very booked up with alumni events and conferences, but we can sometimes arrange private dinners or weddings out of term-time. There's more information about booking an event at Hertford here.

  • For dinner enquiries, please contact the Catering Services Manager, Antony Barrett.
  • For weddings, you can find more information here or contact the Chaplain, Mia Smith.

I'd love to wear some Hertford branded merchandise - where can I get it from?
If you want to wear your love for Hertford on your sleeve, a range of college branded clothing can be bought from the university shop.
