Rhodes Scholarship award for former Hertford visiting student
8 December 2025
In the same week as Hertford’s special college event to celebrate the first African American Rhodes Scholar Alain Locke and the centenary of his publication of The New Negro, we congratulate Hadi Kamara on his Rhodes Scholarship for 2026.
Hadi is a senior at Princeton University studying Politics with a specialisation in international relations. Prior to beginning his studies, he served for three years in the US Air Force as a C-130 crew chief, where his interest in international relations first emerged. Recognising the value of combining lived experience with academic theory, he sought to internationalise his education, studying abroad in Africa, Australia and ultimately the UK, studying at Hertford during the 2025 Hilary and Trinity terms.
He told us that what he appreciated most about his time here was how the tutorial system differed from American teaching styles; the independent, one-on-one learning environment allowed him to delve more deeply into subject matter than ever before. We’re delighted to hear that his experience at Hertford was one of the key inspirations that motivated him to apply for the Rhodes Scholarship!
