Toby Barnard was Fellow and Tutor in History at Hertford College from 1972 until his retirement in 2012. He is a specialist in the political, social and cultural histories of Ireland and England, c.1600-1800. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and Royal Historical Society. In 2010, he delivered Hertford College’s annual John Donne Lecture.
