Mary Robinson is a lawyer, politician and diplomat who was the first woman to serve as President of Ireland (1990-97).
After her premiership, Robinson was appointed as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. From 1998 to 2019, she was Chancellor of Trinity College Dublin and was awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009. She delivered Hertford College’s John Donne Lecture in 2012.
