Dr Maria Telegina

Dr Maria Telegina DPhil (Oxford) is a Departmental Lecturer in Japanese Linguistics at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. She is currently at work on her first monograph, Time and Space in Japanese, which examines the semantics of temporality and spatiality in Japanese from cognitive and sociolinguistic perspectives.
Undergraduate teaching
Maria teaches Japanese linguistics, History of Japanese and Classical Japanese.

Research interests
Maria’s research focuses on the semantics of time and space in Japanese, the mental lexicon, and sociolinguistic aspects of language and identity. She combines approaches from cognitive linguistics, sociolinguistics, and digital humanities, with particular interest in corpus-based and experimental methodologies.
