Dr Jonathan Krause
John Porter Diplomacy Centre Director
I studied history at the University of California, Riverside from 2002-2006 before moving to the United Kingdom where I completed an MA (2007) and PhD (2010) in the War Studies Department, King’s College London. I taught in the History, War Studies, and Defence Studies Departments at King’s College London before coming to Oxford as Principal Investigator on the AHRC-funded project ‘Rebellion and Mobilisation in French and German Colonies, 1914-1918’, which ran from 2015-2018. I am a Lecturer in Modern European History at Hertford for 2021-2022 and a Research Associate with the Oxford Centre for the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology, where I am helping to build an oral history archive for the Royal Army Medical Corps. Since 2023 I have been programme director for the John Porter Diplomacy Centre workshop series, which brings together civil servants, military, industry, and NGOs to work collaboratively on matters of peace, diplomacy, and sustainability.
