Dr Jesse Taylor-West

Jesse is an applied mathematician with an interest in non-Newtonian and environmental fluid dynamics. His current research employs asymptotic and numerical methods alongside experimental and observational data to better understand the non-linear dynamics of volcanological flows. Before joining the University of Oxford as a Hooke Fellow for the Environment, he held an EPSRC National Fellowship in Fluid Dynamics at the University of Bristol. He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, and obtained his PhD from the University of Bristol. His thesis was awarded the UK Fluids Network thesis prize and concerned flows of viscoplastic fluids – materials such as toothpaste or mud, which act solid at low stresses but can flow like a fluid when sufficiently stressed.
