Accommodation
All first-year undergraduates are assigned Hertford accommodation, so you do not need to do anything to register for college accommodation. You will find out which room you have and which building you’ll stay in when you arrive in Freshers’ Week. All of our rooms cost the same price (in the 2021-22 academic year the charge was £23.30 per night and this cost is likely to increase slightly in the 2022-23 academic year).
If you have a disability or a chronic health condition which means that you need specific facilities or a specific location, or that you require your room to be adapted, please contact our Registrar, Lynn Featherstone, so that she can help find a solution.
We provide a basic level of insurance for students’ possessions (including bikes, laptops, phones etc.) through our insurance partner Endsleigh. You can check what is included by visiting their website.

College Contract
When you take up your place at Hertford you enter into a contract with the College. The content of that contract and your responsibilities under it are explained in the College Contract. An updated version of the contract, which is relevant for those starting in the 2022-23 academic year, will be sent to you in late August.

College Handbook
You can find lots of information in the College Handbook. The College Handbook is updated every summer in an agreed process involving current students and all students then become bound by the updated version. We will send you the updated version in late August.

Please let us know if you need support or adjustments on account of a disability or a chronic health condition (including physical and mental health conditions or a specific learning difficulty). Similarly, you may contact Lynn if you think that you would benefit from additional support as you adapt to student life at Hertford (for example, if you have experienced or are managing a difficult set of circumstances, or have received more structured support at school or college). Lynn would be happy to speak with you about welfare and wellbeing support at Hertford.
Please address any questions to Lynn: lynn.featherstone@hertford.ox.ac.uk.

Fees and charges
Once the University has assessed your Fee Status, we will ask you to complete a financial declaration form. The financial declaration form outlines the anticipated costs of your course fees and living expenses. Please look out for emails from our Admissions Officer, Anna Matthew (undergraduate.admissions@hertford.ox.ac.uk) for more information. We will let you know if the University requires additional information to complete your fee status assessment.
Download the Undergraduate Fees & Funding Guide for more information from the University’s Student Fees and Funding team.
You can find information about domestic costs and charges at Hertford on our Living Costs page (please note that there are likely to modest increases at the start of each academic year).

Financial support
Students whose household income is under £53,000 are eligible for a Hertford College Undergraduate Bursary. To find out if you’re also eligible for an Oxford Bursary or Crankstart Scholarship (household income below ~£42,875) please take a look at the University website.
There is no separate application process for the Hertford Bursary, Oxford Bursary or Crankstart Scholarship as all three are based on the household income assessment carried out by your regional funding agency (e.g. Student Finance England). You just need to ensure both you and your household are financially assessed when you apply for UK government funding, and that you give your regional funding agency permission to share your household income with the University.
If you are eligible for an Oxford Bursary or Crankstart Scholarship you can expect to receive information about this in the second half of September. If you are eligible to receive the Hertford Bursary you can expect to receive information about this in January.
More information about other financial support at Hertford, such as our ‘free nights’ policy and support funds, can be found on our Undergraduate Financial Support page.

Meeting your conditional offer
Your offer will be conditional if you have yet to complete the qualifications which will allow you to meet your offer conditions. Oxford remains committed to a fair and flexible admissions process which aims to ensure no students are disadvantaged by the Covid-19 pandemic, in particular those from under-represented and less advantaged backgrounds. Once we have verified the grades that you’ve been awarded in your exams (and that you’ve met any other conditions, such as English language requirements), we will update your offer. If you have replied to UCAS to accept our offer, and if we confirm that you’ve met your offer conditions, your UCAS offer will become unconditional.
If you have any questions which are particular to your circumstances, please write to our Admissions Officer, Anna Matthew (undergraduate.admissions@hertford.ox.ac.uk).

Optional reading lists
Our tutors have created some suggested reading lists to keep you interested in your subject over the summer before you start at Oxford. These aren’t compulsory – we’ve included things we think you’ll enjoy (including podcasts and videos) and that will help to prepare you for starting your undergraduate degree later in the year.
