Unsung Heroes of Science Winners Announced
Unsung Heroes of Science Winners Announced
9 July 2024
Hertford’s annual Unsung Heroes of Science competition saw a large number of pupils aged 16-18 from across the world creating videos about scientists that history has forgotten. After weeks of shortlisting (we swear it gets harder every year!), the winners were announced at the end of June, and the celebration day took place in the sunshine on 25 June. We welcomed 23 of our shortlisted entrants to the college for a day of activities, which included lunch in the dining hall, a science-themed scavenger hunt around Oxford, a prize giving led by Hertford Fellow Alison Woollard, followed by a celebratory afternoon tea (where participants got the chance to chat to Fellows Alison and Claire Vallance).
1st prize: Lili Ghaffari-Gandy with a video on Rita Levi Montalcini
2nd prize: Marco Luthra with a video on Narinder Singh Kapany
3rd prize: Chelsea Lee with a video on Margaret Hutchinson Rousseau
Judging of the shortlisted entries was done by a panel of our science tutors across different specialisms. Thank you to everyone who took part this year!
All shortlisted videos can be viewed on our YouTube channel.
