Our new Outreach Team
24 October 2018
In recent months there have been two new additions to our Outreach team.
Nathan Stazicker arrived as Outreach & Communications Officer in June, taking over the running of our access work with schools for Dr Catherine Redford’s maternity leave, and working on our new college website and communications strategy. The website, which launched at the end of June, has had a great reception but any feedback is warmly welcomed. Expanded college communications will also involve the filming of lots of new videos so keep your eyes peeled on social media!
At the end of August Dr Kathryn Boast joined Hertford as STEM Outreach Officer. Kathryn, who splits her time between Hertford and the Physics Department, will be developing new initiatives to engage under-represented groups in science and encourage them to apply for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) degrees. We are enormously grateful to the alumni who supported the creation of this new role with their donations.
Together, Nathan and Kathryn continue to work with schools in Essex, Kent, Camden and beyond. Several state schools have already visited college this term for a Hertford Taster Day – an opportunity to have an academic-led taster session, admissions talk, college tour, student Q&A and (of course) lunch in hall – and Nathan has been on the road, visiting schools in our link regions to demystify Oxford and offer advice on making a competitive application. With an expanded team in place, this looks set to be an exciting year for access and outreach at Hertford.
