Introducing Hertford 2030: our aspirations for the next ten years
24 May 2021
Today we’re launching Hertford 2030, our aspirations for the next ten years and beyond.
While the past 15 months have challenged us all, we want to come together to write our next chapter. Over the last few months, our conversations have focused on what makes Hertford such a special place to live and learn, such a supportive community in which to work and teach. How do we preserve and build on that?
Bringing together students, tutors, alumni and staff, these discussions have helped us identify four priorities for the next decade: academic excellence and active research; access, sustainability, and opportunity; community and citizenship; and world class facilities.
I have been part of the Hertford community for over 25 years,” says Principal Tom Fletcher. “I’ve come to realise that – through the part we can play in the lives of those who live and learn here – Hertford is a frontline for a better society.
With Hertford 2030, we hope to unite our whole college community behind the effort. As part of this, we’ll aim to eliminate the financial barriers our prospective students face, to make it easier to attract and support the highest potential students. We’ll reach net zero no later than 2030. We’ll aim to provide facilities to give our students the best chance to thrive. And we’ll launch an innovative community and citizenship programme, preparing young people for service to society and securing our legacy of diversity, inclusivity, and excellence.
We need your help to achieve our goals. By offering your expertise, sharing your ideas, holding us to account, or making a gift to our new Future Fund, we can all be part of Hertford 2030.
Together, we hope to create a college that we can all be proud of, a college that leads the way in Oxford and beyond, and that welcomes new people and new ideas for many decades to come.
