Head of Sixth Form at The FitzWimarc School in Rayleigh wins one of Oxford University’s Inspirational Teachers Awards.
We were absolutely delighted to see teacher Steve Jolley pick up an award at last week’s celebration event in recognition of his work in supporting students both at school and in their Oxford applications.
Steve is the Head of Sixth Form at The FitzWimarc School in our link region of Essex. He most recently brought a group of talented Year 10 and 12 students to visit Hertford in March, where they learned about being a student at Oxford and practised their critical thinking skills. He was nominated for this award by Lewis Davies, a first-year Law student at Pembroke College, Oxford. Lewis said:
Steve’s belief in me was infectious. He would push and expect more from me than I knew possible… He is the teacher of teachers. He should be awarded because he did not just go above and beyond what is expected of a teacher, but because he went above and beyond what it means to be a good human being.
It’s a pleasure for us to be able to work together with teachers like Steve and all the other award-winners to support talented students from all backgrounds. You can watch Lewis and Steve talk about the award in this video from the University (make sure you’ve got your tissues at the ready)…
