Hertford football team honours Kenny Lewis in first match of term
18 January 2023
Earlier this week, Hertford College’s men’s football team played its first fixture of the year against St Anne’s. The team wore black arm bands in memory of Kenny Lewis, SCR Butler and long-standing centre forward for the college team, who died on 3 January.
The match, which took place at the St John’s pitches on Woodstock Road, was preceded by a speech by Hertford Principal Tom Fletcher, and a minute silence. In his speech, Tom mentioned that Kenny was the most capped player ever at Hertford and the highest goal scorer over two decades of play. He might have been a wonderful, friendly and caring person off the pitch, but he was certainly intimidating on it! Many will also remember how he was a super sub and that he would often finish SCR lunch service and dash to the ground to play, and, more often than not, score the winning goal and then head back to college for dinner. Kenny will forever be fondly remembered and greatly missed by us all.
The announcement of Kenny’s death can be read here.
