Fighting leukaemia
24 April 2013
Hertford alumna Lauren Murrell has raised almost £45,000 which has been used to enable research into re-programming T cells (a type of white blood cell) conducted by Eva, a PhD student at UCL.
Lauren was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia on 1 February 2012, and underwent a stem cell transplant (donated by her sister) following the failure of the chemotherapy to rid her of the cancer in August at the University College Hospital.
Lauren’s first-hand experience in the Unit at UCLH inspired her to raise funds to further enhance the treatment and care for other patients. Together with Sarah, she set up Lauren’s Fund, which was launched on 23rd September at the London Bridgathon where Sarah and friend Paul walked six miles.
