Fan fiction impact award
20 February 2019
The outreach work of Hertford Physics Lecturer, Dr Sam Henry, has been recognised with a University impact award.
Sam’s work was celebrated at the University’s annual Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division Impact Awards in the category of public engagement with research. The prize recognised his contribution to engaging new online audiences with particle physics through ‘My Little Pony’ fan fiction. Yes, you heard that right, Sam’s fan-fics take place in the ‘My Little Pony’ universe and explore all aspects of particle physics with the help of unicorns and rainbows, engaging audiences who might never otherwise encounter the science behind the stories.
As well as this, Sam regularly staffs stalls at local science festivals, leading physics demonstrations with members of the public. He’ll be at Abingdon’s ATOM Festival of Science and Technology this weekend, so head on down on Saturday 23 March to discover particle physics with our award-winning researcher.
