Celebrating 50 years of co-education

Women’s Stories: History

28 November 2024 - 17:30

The 2024/2025 academic year marks 50 years since Hertford became one of the first five traditionally all-male colleges to go co-educational. To celebrate the occasion we are curating an exciting programme of events.

Join us for a lecture series dedicated to discovering diverse and inspiring stories told by Hertford women. Women’s Stories is a thought-provoking series that brings together academics, students and alumni to share their insights on the multifaceted experiences of women across different fields, cultures and histories.

This series is designed for anyone passionate about understanding and appreciating the rich tapestry of female perspectives. Whether you’re a student, staff, alum or none of the above, come be part of a meaningful conversation that honours the power of women’s stories.

This panel will focus on History.

Date and Time: Thursday 28 November 2024, 5.30 – 6.30pm

Location: Baring Room, Hertford College

Speakers:

  • Dr Elizabeth Norton (2003, MSt Archaeology), is a London-based historian specialising in the queens of England and the Tudor period. She has written several critically acclaimed books, and contributes to a range of history magazines. She also works as an historical consultant on a number of non-fiction and fiction historical films and television.
  • Dr Virlana Schchuka (Ann Ball Bodley Fellow in Women’s History 2023-2024), is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, who intersects critical perspectives from her STEM and humanities research backgrounds to a holistic study of health narratives, particularly those related to childbirth and postnatal health experiences.

Chair: Dr Catherine Sloan (Career Development Fellow in History and Porter Fellow for Academic Skills)

Moderator: Hannah Stovin (2019, BA History)

All welcome! To reserve your place, please register here.
