Join us celebrate our Unsung Heroes of Science, with a special guest lecture and awards ceremony.
We’ll be hearing from researcher Dr Christopher Hollings about some of the unsung heroes of Ancient Egyptian maths, before announcing the winners of this year’s Unsung Heroes of Science video competition. 17:00 – 17:45 Unsung Heroes of Ancient Egypt: the anonymous mathematicians, Dr Christopher Hollings
Among the ultimate unsung heroes of science are those who developed scientific ideas in ancient civilisations – because we don’t even know their names. In this talk, I will give a short account of what (mostly) unknown people achieved in mathematics in Ancient Egypt.
17:45 – 18:15 Competition results – Unsung Heroes of Science 2020
The awards will be presented by Professor Alison Woollard, Tutorial Fellow in Biochemistry at Hertford College and the University of Oxford’s Academic Champion for Public Engagement with Research.
