“After working in the non-profit and higher education sectors for ten years, I am now a full-time writer. My first novel, Hashim & Family, was published in 2020 and I am currently writing my second. I have also written for The Daily Telegraph, The Observer and other national newspapers and online magazines.
I remember graduating as a humanities student and feeling as though the only career options available to me were management consulting or law – and being disappointed that there was little support available to those who wanted something outside of the corporate world.
Pursuing a career in writing can seem daunting – especially when there are the realities of rent and bills to pay – so I am keen to help others navigate the practical challenges of working a ‘day job’ as well as going after a creative dream. BAME individuals are still underrepresented in the creative arts and so I would be especially happy to speak with students from those backgrounds.”
