“After completing my DPhil I was a postdoctoral research fellow first at the University of Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg and then and the University of Durham. I Â joined the Open University in 2001 as a Lecturer and have been here ever since. I teach and research in chemistry with interests in designing smart materials and chemical sensors. Â Much of my research involves collaborating with industry across a broad range from the pharmaceutical to the coatings industries. My teaching has explored how the use of contemporary technologies can help understand and develop chemistry skills. I have also taken this into a wider higher education sphere with interests in postgraduate education and am currently a Trustee and Executive of the UK Council for Graduate Education.“
