Human Sciences interviews

Thank you for applying to Oxford to study Human Sciences.

Well done on getting an interview: the majority of Human Sciences applicants did not get one this year, so you’ve already done really well to reach this stage. You will be interviewed by Hertford and another college. At Hertford, your interview will be conducted by our Human Sciences tutor, Clive Hambler, and a colleague. The other college will be randomly allocated by computer to make sure that everyone has an equal chance of a place regardless of which college you applied to or were allocated in an open application. Some candidates may additionally be called to a third interview with an intercollegiate panel of three tutors. This is a standard part of our admissions process to ensure all colleges have a chance to see applicants and not an indication that you have or have not been accepted by one college or another. If you are called to a panel interview, it would probably take place on Tuesday 12 December and you would be sent an invitation as far in advance as possible.

Your Hertford interview will last around 25 minutes and we will start by asking you why you want to study Human Sciences. After that, the interview may go anywhere: we try to find topics in which you can display your strengths. There are generally no specific ‘right answers’ that we’re looking for, so just say what you think. There will also be a brief chance for you to ask questions at the end.

You will need a device with access to Microsoft Teams, a microphone and webcam to take part in the interviews. Take a look at our Online Interviews Technology page to find out more and watch an introductory video. If you have any questions or concerns about the technology set-up, you should email undergraduate.admissions@hertford.ox.ac.uk and we’ll do our best to help.

We look forward to meeting you soon and wish you the very best of luck.
