Library Works
Hertford is creating a new library at the centre of college life – an inspiring space where students and academics come together to study, think and discover. It is scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2027.
Read on for the latest progress update on the building project.
23 October 2026:
Following a very wet week, Storm Austen delivered a large amount of rain this morning, but the contractors continue to make good progress across the site. The quad podium waterproofing was completed on the main flat slab around the lightwell and staircase, with temporary protection installed over the completed areas. The edge detailing against the existing buildings should be carried out next week. The steel framing upstand to the Powrmatic Automatic Opening Vent (basement smoke vent) has been installed and arrangements are being made for installation of the unit.
Within the former chapel, the new first floor concrete slab has been cast. The concrete is curing, and once sufficient strength has been achieved, the temporary works and falsework will be removed next week.
In the new basement, ductwork installation has commenced and this will be followed by electrical first fix works next week.
In the West Range basement, the rails for the Bruynzeel roller racking have been installed.
The lift pit has been waterproofed and protected, to be followed by the brickwork.
On the first-floor work to make good around the West Range side of the jib door to the Hall has progressed.
