Library Works

Hertford is creating a new library at the centre of college life – an inspiring space where students and academics come together to study, think and discover. It is scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2027.

21 August 2026:

In the Quad and former chapel, the work described in last week’s update, to remove the temporary needle supports for the former chapel continues.

Below the former chapel, the temporary steelwork is being cut out and removed in conjunction with the above ground works.

On the first floor of the former chapel, paint is being removed from the stone coving. This has exposed several areas of damage to the stonework which will need to be repaired before final decorations are done. The paint on the walls will be removed next week to assess their condition.

In the extension area, the vertical works from 1st to 2nd floors have progressed with the temporary falsework for construction of the 2nd floor roof slab in hand. The shuttering for the new concrete staircase in the basement has also commenced.

Outside, the new bronze casement secondary glazing to the existing window in the antechapel has been installed.

The new door for the link from the West range to the Hall has been delivered and is being installed.
