“After leaving academia I worked for five years as a strategic consultant serving the pharmaceutical industry, focusing on commercial strategy. This was followed by more than 16 years as a rated equity analyst in ‘Big Pharma’, speciality/emerging pharmaceutical, and biotechnology. I was also a Life Science investment banker, for European, US and UK investment banks (including Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, Société Générale and Cowen & Co.), working as part of teams responsible for raising over $1.0bn in new funding for Life Science companies, and many successful mergers and acquisitions. I subsequently started my own advisory boutique, specialising in Life Science M&A, fundraising and commercial strategy. We work with both private and publicly listed companies focusing on oncology, CNS disease, antibodies, vector biology, infectious disease, diagnostics, vaccines, ophthalmology, personalised therapy and genetic medicine. Many of my clients are university spin-outs and are based in Oxford and Cambridge. I have held a number of non-executive and executive positions, most recently as Executive Chairman of the Wellcome Trust-backed University of Oxford spin-out, Chronos Therapeutics. In addition to advisory work, I’m a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, Chair an industry organisation (OBN) Investment & Tax Special Advisory Group (ITAG) and regularly present to industry audiences. I combine this with charitable and voluntary work, currently focusing on education.”
