The Vaughan Williams Medical fund enabled me to go on a life-changing elective study trip to Tanzania in summer 2022. We spent most of our time in Moshi, at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre. I was based in the obstetrics and gynaecology department, which taught me lots about both the social and medical approaches to women’s health in Tanzania. I’m not sure if I had ever fully appreciated the opportunities and resources that we have available to us in the UK through the NHS. Everybody was so welcoming and made the time here even better. A team of us medics went on safari and climbed Kilimanjaro, experiences that will stay with us all for life!
