Video competition opened up to teenagers around the world

In light of the current lockdowns and social distancing measures in place around the world, we’re expanding this year’s video competition.

Unsung Heroes of Science challenges you to make a short video celebrating a scientist who deserves wider recognition. There are no restrictions on who you can choose to celebrate – they can be alive or dead and from anywhere you want. Show us who inspires you in the world of science and help us to learn more about them in a short two-minute video.

This year, we’re expanding the competition to allow entries from individuals as well as entrants from outside the UK. So, while you can still enter in a team of two or three, you can now take part if you’re isolating at home too. Anyone aged 16-18 by 31 August 2020 is invited to enter.

Judged by Prof. Alison Woollard – Hertford Biochemistry tutor and the University of Oxford’s Champion for Public Engagement – the maker(s) of the winning UK video will get to meet award-winning journalist and news anchor Fiona Bruce and go behind the scenes at BBC News. We will award a further two prizes for the best international entry and the ‘audience choice’ for the entry chosen by online viewers in a public vote. All shortlisted videos will be published on our website and social media channels.
