Mike Wooldridge to lead AI expansion at Alan Turing Institute
20 May 2022
Hertford’s Professor of Computer Science, Mike Wooldridge, has been chosen to lead a key expansion in artificial intelligence research.
Working to the aims of the National AI Strategy, Mike will head up a new overarching work strand at the Alan Turing Institute. He has worked with the Turing Institute since 2018 and currently holds a distinguished UKRI Turing AI World-Leading Researcher Fellowship. The new research, representing a significant expansion for the Turing Institute, will focus on a range of foundational areas, including fundamental AI science that complements and adds value to the existing work of the UK AI community.
The Alan Turing Institute’s Chief Scientist, Professor Mark Girolami, said:
I’m delighted that the AI Foundations programme will be headed up and developed by world-renowned AI researcher Professor Mike Wooldridge, who is already working with the Turing.
Mike is a Senior Research Fellow at Hertford and was Head of Oxford’s Computer Science Department from 2014 to 2021.
