Hertford College welcomed another large cohort of freshers this term; 118 undergraduates (with 77% of our new students coming from state schools, compared to the University average of 68%) and 111 postgraduates (68 taught and 43 research) spanning 32 different University departments and subjects from Archaeology to Zoology.
On Saturday we celebrated our new students at this year’s Matriculation Ceremony.
Stepping out into the crisp air and onto autumnal leafy streets, smiling into the October sunshine our undergraduates and postgraduates, led by Principal Tom Fletcher, enjoyed their brief walk from Hertford College to The Sheldonian. There, they experienced an ancient Latin induction ceremony in which, among other things, students agree not to kindle any flame in the libraries.
Congratulations to all those who now proudly call themselves Hertfordians and who join a global community of over 7,000 college and alumni members.
See, below, a selection of photographs from the day.
