Is Shakespeare history?
12 October 2018
Did you hear Prof. Emma Smith, Hertford’s Professor of Shakespeare Studies, on Radio 4 this week?
In a special programme to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘In Our Time’, Emma joined host Melvyn Bragg and academics from King’s College London and the University of Huddersfield to discuss Shakespeare’s versions of history. They tackled the Plantagenet monarchs, discussing how Shakespeare’s eight plays from Richard II to Richard III were written out of order, having a significant impact on the way we see those histories today.
You can listen to the programme on the BBC iPlayer, and stay tuned for the second instalment, in which different guests will explore Shakespeare’s Roman histories.
