How to say ‘I love you’
14 February 2014
Today only: a Valentine’s Day pop-up exhibition in the Bodleian Proscholium, curated by Hertford English 3rd years Leah Veronese-Clucas and Roland Walters. Leah and Roland have included a saucy sixteenth century poem called ‘Nashes Dildo’ and a nineteenth-century love-cheque drawn on the bank of Cupid alongside a Donne manuscript and a Mills and Boon novel, to illustrate how many different meanings – sublime, solemn, trivial or erotic – can be conveyed by the words ‘I love you’.
