Hertford, Hugh, and press freedom
28 November 2012
As we await Lord Leveson’s report on press standards, Hertford has been developing the debate. On 18 November, Principal Will Hutton discussed the issues with Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, Hugh Grant, and Paul Connew. Hugh Grant stayed on to talk further to Hertford students. Since then Will has been the media’s go-to spokesperson for increased press regulation. Since so many former Hertford students, including Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Ed Vulliamy, Natasha Kaplinsky, Carole Cadwalladr, Fiona Wilson and Emily Pearce are journalists, it seems appropriate that the future direction of the media is a topic of lively debate within college.
