Hertford and Oxford’s history of black scholars

Alain Locke, who came to Hertford in 1907 as the University’s first African-American Rhodes scholar, takes centre stage in a new book by Pamela Roberts, Black Oxford: the Untold Stories of Oxford University’s Black Scholars. Locke went on to an academic career, and was a key figure in the Harlem Renaissance.
